Retention detector
Retention is the one number nobody can see before they post. A platform only shows you the graph after the fact, when the video is already out and the first hour has decided what happens to it. Point this at a video before it goes out and it watches it the way a viewer would, then draws the curve it expects: where people stay, where they leave, and what to change so fewer of them do.

What it does
- Draws the whole curve rather than a single score, from the first frame to the last second.
- Names the moments people leave at, with the reason for each and what to do about it.
- Judges the first three seconds on their own, because that is where most of the audience is lost and where the fastest fix usually is.
- Reads the stretches that give the viewer nothing new, since a video that stops giving is a video people stop watching.
- Compares where the payoff arrives against where the opening promised it, which is the usual reason a video that starts well dies in the middle.
- Hands back four to six specific moves, most important first.
How it works
- 01 Upload the video, or paste the link it is published at.
- 02 It watches the video and predicts the curve from what is in it.
- 03 The report comes back with the graph, the moments people leave at, and what to change.
Questions
- Is this the retention graph I will actually get?
- No, and nothing outside the platform can tell you that. It is a prediction made from the material in the video: what the opening gives a viewer, where the video stops giving them anything new, when the payoff arrives, and how it ends. That is what retention is decided by, and it is the part you can change before you post. The graph is what those things usually cost, not a measurement of your audience.
- What is it actually reading?
- The same things a viewer sees: the first frame, what happens in the first seconds, how often something new arrives, where the video turns, when the thing it promised arrives, and whether the ending gives a reason to keep watching. It reads the picture and the sound together, so a video carried by text on screen is read for its text.
- Why does the first three seconds get its own number?
- Because that is where most of the audience is lost, and because it is the cheapest part of a video to change. A video can hold everybody at three seconds and still lose them all by twenty, which is why the opening has a number of its own rather than being folded into the curve.
- Does it know my niche or my audience?
- No. It reads the video rather than your channel, so it works on something that has not been posted yet. What it cannot see is who the video is going to be shown to, and a prediction that pretended to would be making up a number about people it has never seen.
- Should I change everything it flags?
- No. Take the first two moves and leave the rest: the list is ordered, and the top of it is where the audience is. A video rebuilt around every note stops being the video you wanted to make.
